Sometimes we inherit wooden floors we just don’t love, but can’t refinish or replace them right away. Area rugs can be a quick fix, but if you dream of making a bold design statement, like these:
Don’t despair. You can have a beautiful floor, with the look of graphic marble, and without waiting for your ship to come in.
Look at your unattractive floors as an opportunity to get creative, and go for the drama without the expense, using paint. Someday you may actually choose to spring for the marble tile version of this floor, so look at this project as an experiment – trying out the look – before you commit to a permanent choice.
Using only simple tools – tape, pencil, ruler, paint – you can tackle the job with a bit of time and a lot of patience. Start first by lightly sanding the floor to remove any glossy areas. Prime, and paint with your base coat. For the best result, make sure to keep the surface dust free as you go along. Before you begin taping off your squares, work out the measurements on graph paper first.
